The Church’s Social and Economic Life, Political Community and Fostering of Peace

Explore how the Church speaks to today’s challenges through one of the documents of Vatican II that speaks about human dignity, family life, society, and peace—and discover your role in bringing Christ into the modern world.

We are honored to welcome Fr. Mark Latcovich, Ph.D. as the presenter for our Gaudium et Spes series. Fr. Latcovich is a former faculty member and Rector of St. Mary Seminary and Borromeo Seminary, where he served the Church in priestly formation and theological education.  He currently serves as pastor at St. Ladislas parish and is the Dean for Suburban West Deanery.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Fr. Latcovich has spent more than two decades specializing in the documents of Vatican II, helping others understand their enduring significance in the life of the Church. His depth of knowledge and passion for these teachings bring clarity and relevance to one of the most important moments in modern Church history.

For this series, Fr. Latcovich has chosen Gaudium et Spes (The Church in the Modern World)—the longest of the Vatican II documents—because of its profound importance and striking relevance in today’s world. Through his guidance, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of how this document continues to speak to the dignity of the human person, the challenges of modern society, and the Church’s mission in our time.
